As a Waves coffee fan, I'm sadly giving this poor review based on my interaction with the owner this past weekend. Every time we visit the store, there are patrons sitting next to the front door, smoking cigarettes. The table/chairs are about 2 or 3 ft away from the entrance, and there are two metal cigarette butt disposal containers mounted on the wall on each side of the entrance. Being asthmatic, and having young children, I mentioned my concerns to the girl who served my coffee and she said the owner just walked outside. I approached the man and mentioned that the smokers cause other customers discomfort and he was very rude and confrontational. I mentioned that the smoking bylaw in Maple Ridge is 7.5 meters away from doors and air intakes. He replied by saying that if I want to police it, then I should tell the smokers that. He also claimed that he doesn't display signage according to the bylaw because "they get torn down". He then asked me, "what do you expect me to do?". I replied, "by having the table next to the door and the butt disposals on each side of the door, you are inviting smokers to smoke there. You should move them 7.5 meters away, in accordance to the bylaw". He laughed at me and said, "move them yourself". I'm currently waiting to hear back from a bylaw officer and plan on contacting Waves HO.

Update March 3rd 2017: I was contacted by Maple Ridge bylaw office and they have demanded that the landlord remove all ashtrays from the building, as he has multiple ashtrays beside every single business entrance. I'm happy to see that the city cares!

Website says open until 6pm. Store sign says 6pm. I walk there at a specific time to buy bitcoin. from their special bitcoin ATM. 4pm today. markets at low. I get there at 4pm. theyre closed. WHY ARE YOU CLOSED, cleaning up inside. I sat and waited hoping they were on break maybe?? several cars and patrons showed up tried the door and left. no sign. 20mins standing at the door and they didnt come say anything. just stared at me. Well. so far it seems my perfect timing for purchase lost me about $200 by not being able to use the ATM they have. boooo!!

UPDATE: March 1, 2017. Waves head office has been very empathetic toward my frustrations and has asked the landlord multiple times to move the ashtrays, to which he agreed to comply. He has yet to cooperate and has now refused to do anything. Waves HO has had to make formal complaints to Maple Ridge City Hall and Fraser Health about this. Sad to know that business owners can be so ignorant and selfish.
